Level Design

Initial Design

The setting of the level produced for this game is set within an overgrown abandoned factory. Through this level, we aimed to teach the player the core mechanics of the game, one such being mutated plants. Namely a potato that is electrically charged, allowing players to use it as a battery to power electronic devices; such as doors.

This level layout shows the players path as highlighted by the purple dashed line. This was added to make the floor plans more effective I also added the level walkthrough as well. Each number on the player path correlates to a number on the player walkthrough. This design also features three different level heights as indicated by the bar on the right side of the page.

The level was then simplified further taking the core ideas found in the initial design and whittling it down to something more achievable within our time frame.​

Greybox

After receiving positive feedback, I then greyboxed the level in the Unity editor. Passing it on to the artists upon completion so they could replace my greyboxed assets.

Final Iteration

We then playtested the level and I made adjustments based upon the data gathered.

The final design forces the player to explore the level discovering all three mutated plants along with way. These being a spore plant, electric potato and glowing mushrooms. All while being led by a path. The player encounters the exit, which is locked before they come to the elevator.
